Getting ready for your test.

What does the 2 module test really mean to the test candidate?

Answer: On the old style test, riders could fudge their way through the practical test because clutch control and balance at slow speeds was only guaranteed to be tested on the ride 'U' turn. By the way, this was the number 1 reason for bike test failures! It was possible that during the rest of the test, if you were lucky enough (it did happen) the road and traffic conditions did not require you to demonstrate the use of slow riding clutch control.

In our experience general riding is not a problem for the average person, it is the slow clutch control that causes the biggest problems. There is a skill required to keep full control at slow speeds that requires balance, delicate and correct use of the controls and above all confidence. The new module 1 test irons out that chance of fudging your way through a test by the nature and quantity of the slow manoeuvre exercises.

We get lots of customers who say they can ride! Yes, you may be able to make a bike move, but can you ride it to test standard?

So consider appropriate training, it works out cheaper than retest after retest. Less demoralising too!

OUR RECOMMENDED TRAINING & TEST ROUTE

Once CBT & Theory is completed. we recommend successfully completing module 1 with a module 2 test booked for the following week, both booked at the same time. This will enable the cancellation of module 2 if you are unsuccessful on module 1 without the loss of test fee (£75) and the booked training for that day is not used un-necessarily. There is also the chance of re-taking module 1. Module 1 and 2 must be done on the same size bike.

If you book both modules with less than 3 days apart module 2 and the booked training for that day cannot be cancelled and is still to be paid for at a total cost of approx £195. (See price list)

MODULE TEST 1 & 2

The motorcycle test aims to improve the standard of road safety for motorcycle and moped riders.  This user group has been identified as having a high risk of injury or death, this is particularly the case for young and inexperienced riders.

The test will be completed in two modules. The specified manoeuvres conducted at specific speeds will be tested in Module 1 on safe off-road sites and take on average 22 minutes.

These specified manoeuvres are:
WATCH THE VIDEO

  • At least two manoeuvres carried out at slow speed, including a slalom
  • At least two manoeuvres carried out at higher speed, of which one exercise should be in second or third gear, at a speed of at least 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) and one exercise avoiding an obstacle at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)
  • At least two braking manoeuvres, including an emergency brake at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)

On the day of the Module 1 test, candidates will be asked by the examiner to demonstrate their riding ability on either the left-hand or right-hand circuit.  Please note that the standard off-road layout may change due to local conditions on the casual sites.

Those candidates who have demonstrated riding skills of a dangerously incompetent level during Module 1 will not be permitted to take Module 2.

Those candidates who have passed Module 1 will receive a Test Pass Certificate which they must bring with them when they take Module 2.

Module 2 of the test will be about 57 minutes in length and will consist of the eyesight test, bike safety questions and at least 30 minutes of road riding. consisting of a road ride covering a variety of road and traffic conditions and will also include normal stops, hill and angle starts.

Customer Testimonials

Dear Kevin,

Just thought I would provide you some feedback after passing my module 1 bike test with you at Patrick Green yesterday.

I found the test very straight forward, your instructions were very clear and concise and even though I had heard detrimental reports on the news regarding the anti swerve manoeuvre, I passed it with confidence due to your excellent tuition.

Thank you once again

Hi Kev & Jo,

I would like to thank you for all ur help and support in helping me pass my bike test .
When I first found out about the new test that was coming out i heard and read a lot of bad coverage about how people was coming off their bikes on the swerve manoeuvre which to be honest i found it quite easy to reach the correct speed and to swerve the cone. The whole training  for the module one test made me more confident and comfortable on the bike for the module two test, I would not have been able to pass all the tests with out the training and the commitment  from Jo (female) lol.
I would recommend any one who is thinking of taking their bike test to come to FMT for the quality training you give to all ur students .

Thank you very much
John Williamson (Castleford)

p.s My ear is still ringing, cheers Dave!! lol
